We are witnessing urban logistics in full boil. Every day, cities absorb an enormous variety of vehicles, each with its own needs. But how do we make it possible for them all to coexist and fulfill their purpose? How do we ensure large goods get as close as possible to their destination? And above all, how do we do it without blocking traffic with bulky vans? At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.web.doncicleto.com\/\">Don Cicleto<\/a>, we already thought about it, and we&#8217;ve already put it into practice. We try to solve last-mile delivery in congested historic centers using the exact same tools as always: oversized vans that block lanes, add noise, and drag out every single delivery. The measures usually taken have more to do with time restrictions or designated loading and unloading zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet cities never stop changing, and we must accompany them in that shift. We need to use the right vehicle for every task. However, we have never lacked alternatives to put concrete solutions into practice amid all this confusion. We even have the data: in cities like Brussels, cargo bikes are up to <a href=\"https:\/\/ciclosfera.com\/a\/comprobado-las-bicicletas-de-carga-superan-a-las-furgonetas-en-todo\"><strong>50% more efficient<\/strong><\/a> in dense urban environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;With a van we make about 8 deliveries per hour in the center, whereas with a cargo bike we reach 16 deliveries per hour&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the words of <strong>Angelino Capretti<\/strong>, CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urbeez.bike\/en_GB\">Urbeez<\/a>: <em>&#8220;With a van we make about 8 deliveries per hour in the center, whereas with a cargo bike we reach 16 deliveries per hour&#8221;<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The true bottleneck is physical space. The immense congestion on urban ground level prevents us, on most occasions, from having warehouses or transshipment bases close to the final delivery points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To answer this labyrinth, nano-hubs were born. And what months ago was a model in a validation phase\u2014boosted by European projects like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eiturbanmobility.eu\/what-we-offer\/innovations-to-market\/rapid-applications-for-transport\/\">RAPTOR program<\/a>\u2014has today become a tangible reality deployed on the streets of capitals like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.web.doncicleto.com\/noticia\/don-cicleto-micrologistica-nano-hubs-barcelona-y-bruselas\/\">Barcelona and Brussels by Don Cicleto<\/a> and the Swiss startup <a href=\"https:\/\/ovo.earth\/en\/\">OVO Urban Logistics<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"751\" height=\"463\" src=\"https:\/\/www.web.doncicleto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Captura-de-pantalla-2025-07-11-a-las-0.33.10.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9398\" style=\"width:593px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.web.doncicleto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Captura-de-pantalla-2025-07-11-a-las-0.33.10.png 751w, https:\/\/www.web.doncicleto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Captura-de-pantalla-2025-07-11-a-las-0.33.10-300x185.png 300w, https:\/\/www.web.doncicleto.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Captura-de-pantalla-2025-07-11-a-las-0.33.10-600x370.png 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Cities never stop changing, and we must accompany them in that shift<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What exactly is a nano-hub and how does it work?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Opposite the macro logistics centers located miles away from urban cores, a nano-hub is a small-format, modular infrastructure distributed strategically right at street level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its philosophy stems from a principle of maximum efficiency: instead of vans or trucks making multiple, tedious deliveries in hard-to-access areas, they make a single centralized drop-off at an easily accessible neighborhood nano-hub. From there, fleets of cargo bikes take charge of the final distribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Olivier Starkenmann<\/strong>, cofounder of <a href=\"https:\/\/ovo.earth\/en\/\">OVO Logistics<\/a>, summarized it by saying that <em>&#8220;the objective is to use the right vehicle for the right task; we call this multimodal logistics. But to optimize it, we must be able to transship goods from one vehicle to another as close as possible to the destinations&#8221;<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, for local administrations, this eliminates one of their biggest urban headaches.
