Let’s talk about Biciway: a leading cycling infrastructure company in Portugal and a benchmark manufacturer with an extensive solutions portfolio. But they needed a change. They have selected our software—Don Cicleto’s technology—to manage their connected systems for secure bike parking and bike washing stations.

Biciway was not starting from scratch. They were already operating with technology from one of our North American competitors. For a major company like Biciway, deciding to switch SaaS providers is an operational ordeal. However, there were plenty of compelling reasons to take on the challenge and choose our platform.

Real value

Biciway’s infrastructure network was already deployed on the ground. Replacing active, in-service technology is no small feat; it demands significant operational, technical, and logistical effort. It is something a company only executes when it foresees a clear, highly justified qualitative leap forward.

“This is a different scenario from our usual cases: we faced the challenge of proving that we are better than the competition and that the effort of making the switch is entirely worth it” — Pablo Rosa, CEO of Don Cicleto.

Faced with tech giants offering generic solutions from a distance, the market demands technical solvency, proximity, and a deep understanding of day-to-day operations. That is precisely what Biciway was looking for and what they found in Don Cicleto.

The three core reasons

Customer service and support: One of the decisive factors for Biciway was the lack of proper support from their previous provider. At Don Cicleto, we believe technology must go hand in hand with service. We continuously accompany all our clients with a dedicated Account Manager who addresses their ongoing needs, anticipates upcoming challenges, and collaborates directly on future projects. We get fully involved in our partners’ business, well beyond closing the deal.

We understand the real-world operational challenges: Unlike traditional software developers, at Don Cicleto we are also operators. We experience first-hand the unpredictability of public spaces, the demands of the end-user, and the maintenance needs of public administrations. This practical experience is baked into our platform’s architecture, making it more intuitive, robust, and efficient. We pass this know-how on to our clients naturally, ensuring their next steps are the right ones without making unnecessary mistakes as they scale.

Competitive pricing through economies of scale: Our dual role as both operators and SaaS providers for other companies allows us to share our software layer across multiple projects. This creates a far more optimized and efficient cost structure. The end result is a more attractive, highly competitive pricing model without sacrificing technical quality.

Iberian momentum

Combining Biciway’s top-tier hardware with Don Cicleto’s logic layer, data analytics, and IoT management sets a clear precedent in the industry: specialization and local market expertise are the real keys to scaling sustainable mobility in Europe, and they are now joining forces across the Iberian Peninsula.
